🎓 Was Fashion School Really Worth It?

Hey 👋🏾

I just dropped a quick YouTube video about my journey through fashion school, but I wanted to dive a little deeper here for anyone who's curious—or maybe questioning whether college (especially art school) is worth it.

Let’s start from the top…

I have a Master’s degree —and yep, with that came a mountain of student loan debt. 😅 But was it worth it? That’s where things get complicated.

Honestly, going to fashion school was kind of a catch-22. If I hadn’t gone, I might’ve saved a ton of money... but I also might’ve missed out on some of the incredible opportunities that came from being in that environment. I made real connections in the fashion industry, landed some dope internships and jobs, and gained experience that shaped the way I move in the world today.

Rewind to the early 2000s...

I was in my early 20s when I moved to Long Beach, California. At that point, I’d already earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The year was 2006, and y’all—it was a thriving season for me. ✨

The relationships I built, the lessons I learned, and the bold moves I made during that time helped shape everything—my brand, my personality, my creative eye, and my entire vibe.

Would something else amazing have happened if I didn’t go to fashion school? Maybe! But I’ll never know, because I said yes to that path—and I have no regrets.

The twist I didn’t see coming...

About two months before graduation, everything changed. I had plans to attend Fashion School in Atlanta, but life had a different idea. I’d been accepted into a fashion institute in Buckhead (Atlanta), but then—plot twist—my admissions advisor was let go and all of my application info was lost. 😩

Fast forward to 2021—I finally moved to Atlanta. Not for fashion, and definitely not in the same stage of life (hello 40s 👋🏾), but it was a full-circle moment. I got to live in Buckhead and experience the life I almost stepped into back in 2006. It wasn’t what I imagined, but it still felt right.

So… was it worth it?

Yes—and no. The debt is real, but so are the lessons, memories, and doors that opened because of that experience. I’ll always carry those moments with me.

Now I want to hear from you:

Have you ever questioned if school—especially grad school or art school—was worth it? Any regrets or unexpected wins?

Let’s talk about it in the comments 💬👇🏾
You never know who your story might help!

How to Style the BCBG Dress.

Fun, lightweight, and gently worn multi-colored strap dress. Fitting but also loose enough for movement.

Perfect for Wedding, Date night, concert, and a fun summer beach afternoon.

In our consignment shop this dress is currently available. In size 4 .

Here are some ideas on how to style.

Blazer- is for upgrade styling, and to pull everything together make for a sleek apperance.

Footwear- Try a strappy gold number or a cute slide (you have to consider where you’re going, and how long you’ ll be there)

Consider wearing the heel and packing a flat just in case.

The goal is to be comfortable, and cute.

Hair- I suggest wearing up, to show the dress.

Earring- Gold hoop is fine or if you’re glamming the dress up, then you need THE SPARKLE…

Carry - Coin bag to carry your lip gloss and phone. Because He’s paying for dinner (lol)

Hope these Tips help.. Be you, at the end of day.
